Freelance Writer, Bloomington, Ind.
May 2017 – Present
+As a freelance writer, I manage multiple projects and deadlines and maintain a solid understanding of industry trends and current events to write and pitch relevant stories. I have experience covering automotive, business, education and marketing topics and have packaged stories into news articles, Q&As and best practices.

I do write for national publications and am not limited to the scope of the state of Indiana.

OwlPost Gifts, Bloomington, Ind.Marketing and Social Media Manager
December 2017 – May 2018
+ I create and implement social media campaigns, seasonal promotions, Facebook and Twitter advertisements and daily social media content. I also write and edit copy for our website, blogs, newsletters and social media channels. You can find me in the back, continuously refining the customer experience in attempts to create an easy-to-maneuver product. I’m also on the analytics side, tracking our movement and improvement.

Self-proclaimed master scheduler AKA I thought it would be fun to connect our OP team and strategies on Google Calendar and it turned out to be pretty helpful.

Automotive News, Detroit, Mich. Intern-Reporter
May 2016 – May 2017
+My first full-time internship was basically a year devoted to learning (and I still am every day).

I started out building relationships with public relations colleagues and working through press releases for breaking news stories. Much of my time later into the internship was devoted to in-depth research and interviews for enterprise, feature and investigative stories.

I mastered complex data analysis, earnings reports and lawsuits — and the occasional SEC filing.

MSU Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology, East Lansing, Mich. Communications/Editorial Intern
October 2014 – May 2016
+One of the most important lesson I learned at the Hub was how to build a brand through storytelling. I interviewed students, faculty and other professionals on what Michigan State is doing — and what it can do better — to change the game of learning.

I also developed projects with my peers (ask me about MSU Global Gears) to advertise innovative processes at Michigan State.

This is where I first worked with Hootsuite as I created, scheduled and tracked social media content for certain projects.

Capital News Service, East Lansing, Mich. News Correspondent
August 2015 – January 2016
+My work for this wire service solidified my interest in public affairs reporting. I earned some of my first front-page stories covering the education, business and economic development beats for about 25 daily and weekly newspapers across the state.

I worked with advocacy group leaders, policy analysts and independent experts to unravel the latest public policy and government decisions.

Capital News Service presented me with an award for top correspondent of the year.

The Meridian Times, Okemos, Mich. Staff Writer
January 2015 – May 2015
+ The Meridian Times is where I fell in love with the education beat. It also led me to a research project and my greatest mentor. The research project showed the advantages of high school journalism and connected Detroit high school journalism students to mentors.

I pulled exciting news from the same old township and education board meetings in the Meridian Charter Township. I also put together my first packages with my own video and photography content.

Red Cedar Log, East Lansing, Mich. Staff Writer
September 2014 – May 2015
+The Red Cedar Log yearbook was my first crack at marketing a publication over social media, as I quickly received the right to control the Facebook and Twitter accounts.

My journalism here, which covered Michigan State sports, events and students, took the creative route.
